Short description of the organization/department/research team IPAE UB RAS makes multidisciplinary biological studies on the regularities of functioning, evolution and stability of biological systems at population, community and ecosystem levels in natural and anthropogenically changed environments of the Urals and adjacent territories of the Northern Eurasia. The staff tackles problems of applied ecology: rational nature management; ecological regulation; bio-indication; ecotoxicology; radioecology; environmental impact assessment and ecological prediction. Scientific structural department of the IPAE UB RAS consists of 13 laboratories and includes 294 collaborators with 193 scientific researchers. “The Russian Journal of Ecology” is produced there. The research team is conducted a study of the metabolic homeostasis in natural populations of small mammals inhabiting the East-Ural radioactive trace. Results of research are aimed at identifying ways and strategies of physiological adaptation to anthropogenous habitat, which allows to predicting the remote effects of long technogenic influences on the organism and populations of mammals.
