Short description of the organization/department/research team The Chair of Waste Management at the Institute IWAR belongs to the Department of Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt). The Chair of Waste Management at the TU Darmstadt has been directed by Prof. Jager since 1992. In the year of 2010 furthermore the working group brings together: 2 professors, 2 doctors, 4 scientific staff, 4 laboratories and workshop employee and our secretary. The main research interests of the Chair of Waste Management are the climate and resource protection by means of energy efficiency enhancement in thermal and biological waste treatment processes. Further topics encompass the development of waste management systems, the optimization of transport logistics and landfill engineering, environmental analysis, emission and immission control, and life cycle analysis. Currently our research activities include the study on the extraction of biotechnological products from the biological waste treatment; energy efficiency investigations on thermal treatment process; and the study on methane oxidation on a mechanical-biologically treated landfill. In addition environmental analysis, emission and immission control are topics of professional discussion.
