Short description of the organization/department/research team The main goal of ABIORAS is a conducting of independent basic and applied integrative study of the Baltic Sea, as well as Atlantic Ocean with enclosed seas, coastal waters and coastal zone using research vessels and other research facilities and resource to obtain new knowledge in field of hydrophysics, geology, hydrometeorology and ecology. Laboratory for Coastal Systems Study (LCSS) fulfils investigations in physical, sedimentological and integrative studies including a numerical modelling of the aquatic coastal systems (near-shore zone, lagoons and estuaries) with respect of their role in cascade seaward transport of matter and energy from watershed area. The main objects of investigation are transboundary Vistula, Curonian lagoons and small rivers of Kaliningrad Oblast (Kaliningrad County), lower part of the Pregolya River, coastal zone of Kaliningrad Oblast including the Curonian and the Vistula sandy barrier spits. Laboratory staff consists of 14 scientists (10 PhD) and 4 engineers and technicians. They are graduated from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow State University, St.Petersburg State University, Kaliningrad State University. Laboratory subdivided into numerical modelling group, morpho-lithodynamics group, and group of field measurements.
