Study of the regional dynamics of climate and environment by means of reconstruction and comparison of paleoclimatic, paleolandscape and paleoglacial conditions, reconstruction and modeling of parameters of past climate states, indication and chronology of extreme climatic and landscape phenomena including the last Ice Age, Holocene and Late Holocene.

The steppe institute as unique not only in the Russian Federation, but also on all post-Soviet territory center of science of studying of steppes in the long term can offer real scenarios of change of environment in a steppe belt of Eurasia. These scenarios are necessary for considering at development of strategy of a sustainable development of steppe and forest-steppe agricultural regions of Russia.

Short description of the organization/department/research team:Siberian Regional Research Hydrometeorological Institute was founded on 1 January 1971. Currently, SI “SybRRHMI” conducts research work in the field of hydrometeorology and environment protection in the area of western and eastern Syberia and provides guidance in carrying out regional research and development of Zapadno-Sibirsky, Irkutsky, Ob-Irtyshsky, Srednesibirsky, Uralsky territorial departments for hydrometeorology and environment monitoring.
Research covers the following: creation and improvement of methods and techniques of short-term, mid-term and long-term weather forecasts and natural hazards threatening the economy, hydrometeorology forecasts, agrometeorology forecasts and calculations, methods of assessment and forecasting of environment pollution. SybRRHMI studies principles of physical processes ongoing in the atmosphere and the hydrosphere, processes of environment pollution, climate changes under the impact of natural and anthropogenic factors, hydrological, hydrochemical and hydrobiological regime of surface water and agro-meteorological regime.
